My position at Portillo's was a pivotal point for me, marking my transition to a fast-paced, high-demand work environment. While I had previous jobs, the experience at Portillo's truly tested my ability to thrive under pressure. The workflow was dynamic, with each station dedicated to a specific food item, such as Beef, Broiler, Table, and Fries. I began at the Beef station but quickly became proficient in all areas, allowing me to contribute across various stations. This versatility led to my role as a 'Floater,' where I provided support to the station in greatest need or filled vacant positions. Mastering the different stations not only enhanced my skill set but also allowed me to directly assist my colleagues, creating a collaborative and efficient team environment that I really enjoyed working in.

My time working in the shop provided me with invaluable hands-on experience, teaching me the critical importance of attention to detail and the value of precision. I learned the principle that it’s always better to measure twice and cut once, reinforcing the idea that careful preparation leads to better outcomes. Additionally, I was entrusted with the ability to take on self-directed projects, which helped me develop strong time management skills and the ability to effectively manage multiple tasks. This experience taught me how to balance quality with efficiency while ensuring that deadlines and objectives were consistently met.

During my internship, I gained invaluable technical experience that significantly broadened my understanding of data management and analysis. I had the opportunity to learn industry-standard practices for handling and organizing data, as well as the technical skills necessary to ensure its accuracy and security. This experience not only provided me with a deeper insight into the complexities of data management but also offered a glimpse into what a career in this field might entail. I found the work both challenging and rewarding, and it furthered my passion for pursuing a career in data and related fields.

I also assisted with troubleshooting and resolving IT issues, supporting operational continuity for the legal services team. Additionally, I was responsible for maintaining the company’s hardware and network infrastructure, ensuring systems ran smoothly and efficiently. This role allowed me to combine my technical skills with problem-solving capabilities, contributing to operational improvements and enhanced productivity.
